What New York Really Needs - Herbs to Speed Up, Calm Down, and Detox

Two weeks ago our team traveled to NYC and set up a pop-up Apothecary Shop at the Architectural Digest Design Show #SHOP2016 section. For four days we answered health questions and held space for New Yorkers to be vulnerable about their nearest and dearest health challenges.

And boy, did we learn so very much about New York's lifestyle choices. The Big Apple is known for its fast paced, pavement pounding, hum of electric lifestyle. And since we once lived here (yes, we even lived in the infamous Williamsburg, but honestly enjoyed Spanish Harlem a lot better) we remember what it was like to live so far from nature, and yet still be able to feel her demanding grasp, her pull, her voice, amongst all the inflexible infrastructure and demands of patriarchal capitalism.

So here is to the machine, and the amazing New York City women who tell the machine how to hum, where to go; its guiding heart.

What New York Needs - an Herbal Review

#1 - Lemon Balm Tea

Nearly every person who visited our booth (who were primarily women aged 25-25, and 55+) asked about stress. How do I calm down? Got anything to take the edge off, they joked. And over and over again we recommended one particular herb: Lemon Balm. So, Lemon Balm calms down your nervous system. Pitch in the $10 and buy a plant. It grows readily and easily in your window-sill.

Make a cup of tea. Daily.

Use just three leaves, whenever you need to stop the electric hum of your ambition and just be still and present in your body again. (We used to work in fashion too, boo, so don't pretend)

Tea not your thing? Check out Mellow Midnight, a blend of Lavender and Lemon Balm to ease tension and calm the nervous system, Eleuthero to sustain energy, and Burdock and Dandelion Root for mild detoxification.

#2 - Cunt Butter

Yes, we just said CUNT butter. Don't panic, and please keep reading.

Yes, Cunt Butter is a botanical lubricant. It's a luscious coconut oil infusion of peppermint and nettle that is ever so sightly cooling. And yes, the primary suggested usage is for touching your clitoris, your labia, and every in between. And yes, we also like to use this blend as a chapstick or a cuticle moisturizer.

At our New York booth, we saw you giggle, we saw you gasp, we saw you give us that silent questioning eye, and some of you, brave souls, even asked us if it really was for your CUNT. The adventurous among you bought sooooo many Cunt Butters that we went home with only one left. (Stay tuned for the re-release in the next two weeks)

So why CUNT Butter you wonder?

Eve Ensler. At age 17 we were in the first high school production of the Vagina Monologues in the USofA, and when my young friend stood on the stage yelling Cunt! Cunt! Cunt! at the top of her lungs in the skit "Reclaiming Cunt" we never were the same.

And because a friend requested a botanical lubricant.

At the end of the year we will make a lump-sum donation of 1% of this product's sales to the One Billion Women Rising Campaign. Because we don't rise, until we all rise.

#3 To the Sunrise Elixir

In the city that never sleeps there are never enough hours in the day to get it all done. Don't fret. Pop a few drops of this spicy Ginger and Turmeric elixir. Energy levels will rise and sustain themselves with Eleuthero and Astragalus.

To the Sunrise is delicious, nutritious, and helps you keep working or greet the sunrise.

Most popular tasting on our bar menu, the To the Sunrise elixir sustains energy all day without the up and down feeling that coffee generously provides. Our team was caught dosing other exhibitors and ourselves throughout the day. Show organizer, Julia, couldn't get enough, and we went home with only a few mini-size To the Sunrise elixirs left.

 #4 Detox, Detox, Detox

All the delivery truck smog, combined sewage overflow, and lack of forests seem to be getting to New Yorkers.

"Everyday detox" became an anthem at the Corner Alchemy Apothecary pop-up booth.

Since we recommend 3-5 drops of our Detox Elixirs in a cup of water, our blends can clean your liver, kidney, and your blood.

Liver Detox - - detoxifies and nourishes the body, especially, after a long night of celebration, with Dandelion Root, Burdock Root, Milk Thistle, Red Clover, and Bee Pollen.

Kidney Detox - - lightly cleanses the kidney with Dandelion Root, Burdock Root and Red Clover.

Every Day Detox - - helps to purge old habits, ideas, and forms of thought with a complex blend of Milk Thistle Seed, Burdock Root + Leaf, and Dandelion Root.

Spring Toxin Cleanse - - an early spring tonic that cleanses and removes toxins, containing Beech Bark, Crab Apple Flower, and Chickweed.

Thank you, New York!
